Delhi Election: YouTuber Meghnad Fails To Beat NOTA In Malviya Nagar Seat, Embraces Defeat With Humour

35-old YouTuber and journalist Meghnad S took Prime Minister Narendra Modi's call for youth participation in politics to heart, tweeting on January 10, "I am going to try and do it, Modi ji."

He followed through on his words by contesting the high-profile Malviya Nagar seat in the Delhi elections. However, his political debut was far from successful, as he managed to secure just 192 votes-failing even to surpass NOTA (None of the Above), which received 532 votes.

Meghnad S, who boasts over 81.7K YouTube subscribers and nearly 2 lakh followers on X, accepted the results with good humour. During the vote-counting process, he tweeted, "141 votes. 4 rounds still left. I was expecting 7 votes tbh (to be honest)."

He later released a video titled "How to Lose an Election in 10 Days", describing it as "documenting the cheapest and scrappiest campaign in the Delhi elections 2025."

The Malviya Nagar seat was ultimately won by former BJP Delhi unit chief Satish Upadhyay, who defeated AAP heavyweight and sitting MLA Somnath Bharti by over 2,000 votes.

Despite competing against political veterans, Meghnad managed to gain traction on social media with his witty campaign jingle and slogans. His song, "Dilli ka Normie Neta", became a viral sensation, amassing over 38,000 views within hours of its release.

Using satire and sharp lyrics, the song highlighted key issues affecting Delhi's residents, including traffic congestion, pothole-ridden roads, pollution, and civic woes.

"Not your usual politician, I don't make tall claims, so choose the pen on an EVM," he sang, referring to his election symbol-the pen.

Throughout his campaign, Meghnad positioned himself as a "normie" alternative to career politicians. His rallies eschewed the usual grandstanding and theatrics, instead adopting a light-hearted and relatable approach to engage with voters.

Declaring himself self-funded, Meghnad disclosed Rs 55.1 lakh in movable assets and liabilities of Rs 1 lakh in his election affidavit.
