Delhi Coaching Tragedy: Rau’s IAS Coaching Offers ₹50 Lakh To Victims' Families—Lawyer Reveals Details
Following a tragic flooding incident at Rau's IAS Study Circle in Delhi, which resulted in the drowning of three students, the institute announced a compensation of ₹50 lakh for each victim's family. Legal proceedings and arrests have been made in connection with the incident.
The tragic incident at Rau's IAS Study Circle in Delhi's Old Rajendra Nagar resulted in the drowning of three students after water filled the basement.
The coaching institute has announced a compensation of ₹50 lakh for each victim's family.

Advocate Mohit Saraf stated, "What we are offering is a ₹50 lakh compensation to each one of the students who has lost his life. Rs. 25 lakhs right away and Rs. 25 lakhs once Abhishek, the CEO of the organisation, comes out and we can meet the financial requirement to pay the remaining Rs. 25 lakhs. I also have committed that the next part will be paid within six months... Different people have different expectations, I am a messenger."
Legal Proceedings and Arrests
The police have arrested several individuals in connection with this tragedy, including Abhishek Gupta, the CEO of Rau's IAS Study Circle. Additionally, they detained Manuj Kathuria, the driver of an SUV that passed by during the incident. Authorities believe water displaced by his vehicle entered the basement.
A local court granted bail to Kathuria today, noting he was implicated due to over-enthusiasm. The prosecution decided to drop harsher charges of culpable homicide not amounting to murder against him.
Scientific Data and Legal Arguments
Senior advocate Vikas Pahwa, representing Kathuria, argued that essential scientific data was missing from the prosecution's case. He highlighted the lack of measurements regarding the cubic volume of water on the road and how much was displaced by Kathuria's SUV.
Pahwa emphasised that without these crucial measurements, establishing a direct causal link between Kathuria’s actions and the damage caused to Rau’s IAS Study Circle was impossible.
Compensation Details
Saraf explained that ₹25 lakh would be provided immediately, with another ₹25 lakh following within six months after meeting financial requirements. This compensation aims to support the families affected by this unfortunate event.
The court directed Kathuria not to make any comments about the case to print or electronic media in any manner.
This incident has raised questions about safety measures at educational institutions and accountability in such tragic events.
