Delhi CM Atishi Breaks Down Over BJP Leader Ramesh Bidhuri's Objectionable Remark On Her Father | WATCH

Delhi Chief Minister Atishi broke down during a press briefing on Sunday after BJP leader Ramesh Bidhuri made a personal remark, claiming that "she changed her father."

Addressing Bidhuri's comments, Atishi said, "I want to tell Ramesh Bidhuri that my father has been a teacher throughout his life. He has taught thousands of children from poor and lower-middle-class families. Today, he is 80 years old and in fragile health-he cannot even walk without help. He has resorted to abusing an elderly man. I never thought politics in this country could fall so low."

The controversy began after Bidhuri, BJP's candidate for the Kalkaji Assembly constituency, accused Atishi of altering her identity for political gain.

During his speech, Bidhuri claimed, "Atishi, who was Marlena, is now Singh. She has even changed her father. This reflects the character of the Aam Aadmi Party."

He also revived old accusations against Atishi's family, alleging that her parents had submitted a mercy petition seeking to pardon Afzal Guru, the convicted terrorist responsible for the 2001 Parliament attack.

"Atishi Marlena's parents submitted a mercy petition against the death sentence of Afzal Guru, the terrorist responsible for the deaths of many of our brave soldiers. I want to ask the people of Delhi whether they want to support those who sought a pardon for Guru's death sentence," the BJP leader added.

AAP convenor and former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal took to social media platform X to condemn Bidhuri's remarks.

"BJP leaders have crossed all limits of shamelessness. BJP leaders are abusing Delhi Chief Minister Atishi ji. The people of Delhi will not tolerate the insult of a woman Chief Minister. All the women of Delhi will take revenge for this," Kejriwal wrote in Hindi.

Former MP Ramesh Bidhuri's comments on Atishi followed the viral spread of a video in which he compared road development to Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi's cheeks.

At a public event in Delhi's Kalkaji, Bidhuri stated, "Lalu Yadav once famously claimed that he would make the roads of Bihar as smooth as Hema Malini's cheeks, but he failed to deliver on that promise. I assure you, however, that just as we have transformed the roads in Okhla and Sangam Vihar, we will ensure that every road in Kalkaji is made as smooth as Priyanka Gandhi's cheeks."

The statement, which echoed a similar comment by RJD leader Lalu Prasad Yadav about BJP MP Hema Malini, was widely criticised by political rivals.

Congress leader Alka Lamba, also contesting from Kalkaji, condemned Bidhuri's remarks, calling them "indecent" and an "insult to women."

Bidhuri, known for courting controversy, initially defended his comments, claiming they were taken out of context. However, facing increasing backlash, he later expressed regret on X, saying, "If my remarks caused offense, I regret it. Some are misconstruing my words for political purposes."
