Delhi Air Pollution: GRAP-3 Restrictions Re-imposed In National Capital; Schools Till Class 5 To Run In Hybrid

The central government has intensified pollution control measures in Delhi-NCR by implementing stricter regulations, including vehicle restrictions, hybrid schooling, and staggered office hours. These steps are part of the revised air pollution control plan aimed at addressing the deteriorating air quality during winter.

Schools in Delhi and nearby areas will transition to hybrid learning for younger students. This change is mandatory on days when pollution levels are severe. The updated Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) outlines these measures based on the Air Quality Index (AQI), which categorises pollution into four stages.

Delhi Air Pollution GRAP-3 Restrictions

Vehicle Restrictions and Hybrid Learning

For Stage II (Very Poor) conditions, inter-state buses will be restricted unless they meet specific environmental standards like electric, CNG, or BS-VI diesel vehicles. Stage III enforces further limitations, including a ban on BS-IV diesel vehicles except those transporting essential goods.

In addition to vehicle restrictions, schools will adopt hybrid learning methods for younger students. If AQI reaches Stage IV levels, higher classes will also switch to hybrid modes. This approach aims to reduce exposure to harmful pollutants among students.

Office Timings and Residential Measures

Public offices in Delhi-NCR might implement staggered timings to minimise exposure to polluted air. Furthermore, residential associations are encouraged to provide electric heaters to avoid biomass burning during cold weather. These initiatives are designed to mitigate pollution and safeguard public health amid Delhi's seasonal air quality challenges.

The revised plan also includes restrictions on non-electric and non-CNG inter-state buses and imposes limits on diesel vehicles. These actions aim to improve air quality and protect public health during the challenging winter pollution season in Delhi.

By enforcing these measures, authorities hope to tackle the worsening air quality effectively. The focus remains on reducing pollution levels and ensuring the well-being of residents during this critical period.
