Congress Manifesto For Delhi Polls: Free Electricity, Rs 2,500 for Women

With just a week remaining for the Delhi Assembly elections, the Congress on Wednesday released its manifesto, pledging to conduct a caste census and establish a dedicated ministry for Purvanchalis if voted to power in Delhi.

The party has pledged a monthly allowance of ₹2,500 for women and free electricity for up to 300 units. Additionally, Congress has vowed to provide free medical treatment worth up to ₹25 lakh for Delhi residents.

To attract young voters, the party has promised a one-year apprenticeship in both public and private sectors, with a monthly stipend of ₹8,500 for trainees. It also plans to set up 100 Indira Canteens across the city, offering meals at just ₹5.

Rajya Sabha MP Ajay Maken stated that the manifesto reflects Congress' governance track record in Delhi and other states where the party is in power.

"We deliver what we promise. Congress has honored its pre-election commitments in other states and will do the same in Delhi," he asserted.

Congress has also assured subsidized LPG cylinders at ₹500 and a free ration kit for families, which will include 2 kg of sugar, 1 kg of cooking oil, 6 kg of pulses, and 250 grams of tea leaves.

Congress has guaranteed free health insurance coverage of up to ₹25 lakh and the distribution of free ration kits to eligible families.

The manifesto, structured around 22 focus areas, was launched by Delhi Congress president Devender Yadav, alongside Congress communications in-charge Jairam Ramesh.

The elections for all 70 Assembly seats in Delhi will take place in a single phase on February 5, with vote counting and results scheduled for February 26.
