Maharashtra Election: Swara Bhasker's Husband Fahad Ahmad Joins NCP-SP, To Contest From Anushakti Nagar

Swara Bhasker's husband, Fahad Ahmad, who was earlier with Samajwadi Party, has now joined the NCP-SCP alliance and will contest for the Anushakti Nagar seat in Maharashtra, where he will face Sana Malik, the candidate from Ajit Pawar's NCP.

"Samajwadi Party leader and actor Swara Bhasker's husband, Fahad Ahmad, joined NCP-SCP. He has been fielded from the Anushakti Nagar seat against Sana Malik of NCP (Ajit Pawar)," said NCP-SCP leader Jayant Patil.

Swara Bhasker and Fahad Ahmad were married in February 2023.

"Fahad Ahmad is a well-educated young Muslim and has worked as an activist across the country. People want leaders like him. He was with the Samajwadi Party earlier, but we had discussions with SP, and he joined us. We gave him a ticket from Anushakti Nagar seat," Patil added.

On Friday, the Ajit Pawar-led Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) announced that senior leader Nawab Malik's daughter, Sana Malik, would contest from the Anushakti Nagar constituency.

Sana's name appeared in NCP's second list of seven candidates for the upcoming assembly elections, bringing the total number of declared NCP candidates to 45.

"I have been nominated from Anushakti Nagar. As the people are with us, I foresee no issues. Let them field whoever they want," Sana remarked after her nomination.

Although Malik was hoping for a ticket from NCP, BJP leaders oppose his candidacy due to ongoing investigations into allegations of money laundering.

BJP's Mumbai president, Ashish Shelar, stated on Friday, "Devendra Fadnavis has clarified that Nawab Malik will not be part of the Mahayuti coalition as he is facing serious accusations."

Despite this, Malik is preparing to contest the election from Mankhurd-Shivaji Nagar.

"He will not step back, even if the party withholds his nomination," said a close associate.

The Maharashtra assembly elections are set for November 20, with results to be announced on November 23.
