Samruddhi Expressway Toll Hike: Prices To Go Up By 20% On April 1 – Check New Rates
The Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) has announced a toll rate increase on the Hindu Hrudaysamrat Balasaheb Thackeray Maharashtra Samruddhi Expressway, set to take effect from April 1, as per a Hindustan Times (HT) report. The new toll rates will see an increase of up to 20 per cent for vehicles using the expressway, which connects Mumbai and Nagpur.
Currently, the per kilometre toll rates are Rs 1.73 for light motor vehicles, Rs 2.79 for light motor commercial vehicles, Rs 5.85 for heavy vehicles with two axles, Rs 6.38 for three-axle vehicles, Rs 9.18 for heavy construction machinery, and Rs 11.17 for oversized vehicles with seven or more axles.

Under the new rates, light motor vehicles will be charged Rs 2.06 per kilometre, light motor commercial vehicles will pay Rs 3.32, and heavy vehicles with two axles will be charged Rs 6.97. Additionally, three-axle vehicles will face a toll of Rs 7.60, heavy construction machinery will incur Rs 10.93, and oversized vehicles with seven or more axles will be charged Rs 13.30.
An MSRDC official confirmed that a public notice regarding the toll hike has been issued. When asked about the remaining 76 km stretch of the expressway, the official mentioned that this section, leading towards Mumbai, is ready and will open soon.
The expressway, which was first announced in November 2015, began construction in February 2019 and is being built in 16 packages. The toll collection will continue for 40 years.
The expressway is largely operational, with major sections already opened: On December 11, 2022, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the 520-kilometre stretch between Nagpur and Shirdi. On May 23, 2023, then-Chief Minister Eknath Shinde opened another 105 km from Shirdi to Bharvir. More recently, a 25 km stretch from Bharvir to Igatpuri was opened to motorists on March 4, 2024.
The final 76 kilometres section from Igatpuri to Amane, near Bhiwandi, remains to be opened. This part will connect with the under-construction Mumbai-Vadodara Expressway, which will link Jawaharlal Nehru Port in Mumbai to Gujarat. Until then, a temporary route has been provided for vehicles to move between the Mumbai-Nashik Highway and the Samruddhi Expressway.
