Ravindra Waikar: From Shiv Sena Corporator to MP, Paving the Way for Development in Jogeshwari

Ravindra Waikar, a prominent Shiv Sena leader, has charted an impressive political journey from corporator to Member of Parliament, significantly contributing to the development of the Jogeshwari area. Shiv Sena has transformed Mumbai and its suburbs into a stronghold, largely driven by the ideals of Balasaheb Thackeray and the party's extensive social initiatives. This foundation has attracted thousands of young individuals to the party, particularly in the western suburbs.

Waikar's unwavering loyalty to Shiv Sena first came to prominence in 1992, when he was elected as a corporator from the Jogeshwari constituency. His political career gained momentum with consecutive victories in 1997, 2002, and 2007. From 2006 to 2010, he served as Chairman of the Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai's Standing Committee, further enhancing his influence within the party.

In 2009, Waikar secured a ticket for the assembly elections and won his initial attempt, subsequently being re-elected in 2014. During his tenure, he served as the Minister of Higher and Technical Education, as well as the Minister of Housing in Devendra Fadnavis's cabinet. In 2019, he continued his electoral success, reaffirming his stronghold in the area.

A Close Contest in the 2019 Lok Sabha Elections

In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Waikar faced a fiercely competitive race against Amol Keertikar from the Uddhav Thackeray faction. Emerging victorious by a narrow margin of just 48 votes, Waikar's win underscored his deep-rooted connections within the Jogeshwari community.

His tenure as an MP has been characterized by a range of development initiatives aimed at uplifting the Jogeshwari area. Waikar played a pivotal role in the establishment of the Hindutva Heart Emperor Balasaheb Thackeray Trauma Care Hospital in Jogeshwari East, where he also contributed advanced ambulances to improve local medical services. Additionally, he spearheaded the construction of the Hindutva Heart Emperor Balasaheb Thackeray Flyover, which has enhanced connectivity between East and West Jogeshwari.

Recognizing the urgent need for water supply, Waikar was instrumental in the creation of the Hindutva Heart Emperor Balasaheb Thackeray Middle Vaitarna Water Reservoir, effectively addressing water scarcity issues in the region.

Empowering Students Through Education

Committed to supporting local students preparing for the MPSC exams, Waikar initiated the establishment of an e-library. He has also been proactive in enhancing educational facilities by successfully implementing the CBSE curriculum in municipal schools.

With his extensive public network and a track record of continuous victories, Waikar has remained a formidable political force in the region for over three decades, maintaining an unbroken winning record since 1992.

New Opportunities for the Next Generation

As he continues his political journey, an exciting new opportunity has emerged with his wife, Manisha Waikar, being given the chance to contest from the Jogeshwari East assembly constituency in the upcoming 2024 elections, with support from Eknath Shinde. With a strong legacy and deep community ties, the Waikars are well-positioned to expand their political influence in the region.

As the political landscape evolves, the renewed alliance between Shiv Sena and the BJP is expected to attract disillusioned voters back to the party, potentially paving the way for Manisha Waikar to secure victory in the forthcoming elections.
