Pune-Bengaluru Expressway To Slash Travel Time To Just 7 Hours– Check Route, Speed, And Timeline
The Pune-Bengaluru Expressway, a major infrastructure project spanning 700 kilometres, is set to significantly reduce travel time between the two cities. Once completed, the expressway will cut the current 15-hour journey from Bengaluru to Pune to just seven hours, making travel faster and more convenient.
The project, estimated to cost Rs 50,000 crore, is being developed under the Bharatmala Pariyojna Phase 2 initiative. The expressway will feature six lanes and a maximum speed limit of 120 kilometres per hour, ensuring smooth and efficient transportation. It will also connect with the Pune-Mumbai Expressway, enhancing connectivity between key cities, according to a report by Times Property.

The expressway will pass through several districts in Maharashtra, including Sangli, Satara, and Pune, before entering Karnataka. In Karnataka, it will run through Belagavi, Bagalkot, Gadag, Koppal, Vijayanagara, Davanagere, Chitradurga, Tumakuru, and Bengaluru. The expressway will conclude at the proposed satellite ring road in the Muthagadahalli area of the Bengaluru Metropolitan Region.
Expected to be completed by 2028, the expressway will provide an alternative route alongside National Highway 48. This development aims to improve road infrastructure and ease congestion, benefiting daily commuters and businesses. With reduced travel time, the expressway is expected to boost trade, tourism, and overall economic growth in Maharashtra and Karnataka.
Additionally, the project is likely to encourage real estate and industrial growth along its route, making areas near the expressway more accessible. The improved connectivity will also support logistics and transportation sectors, contributing to regional development.
Once operational, the Pune-Bengaluru Expressway will become a crucial transport link, transforming travel between the two cities.
