Mumbai Viral Video: Robot Takes The Lead In Firefighting Effort At Bandra Mall
Mumbai witnessed a major firefighting operation early on Tuesday morning after a massive fire broke out in the basement of a Croma showroom at Link Square Mall in Bandra (West). To deal with the intense blaze and heavy smoke, the Mumbai Fire Brigade (MFB) deployed a high-tech firefighting robot, marking a significant step in using technology for emergency response, as reported by the Free Press Journal.
The fire was first reported at 4:11 AM and quickly spread through the multi-storey mall building, which has three basement levels and four floors above ground. As the flames grew stronger and the smoke became thicker, the MFB declared it a Level-IV fire by 6:25 AM - one of the most serious categories of fire alerts.
The blaze is believed to have started in the basement of the Croma Electronics showroom. Soon after, thick smoke filled the entire building, making it difficult for firefighters to enter safely. To handle this challenge, the MFB used a robot named "Robert-02", which is specially designed to work in dangerous environments with poor visibility and high heat.
The robot is equipped with cameras, sensors, and strong water nozzles. It was able to move into areas that were too risky for firefighters and spray water directly at the source of the fire. This helped control the flames while keeping fire personnel safe.
Thankfully, no injuries or casualties have been reported so far. Several agencies responded to the emergency, including teams from the Mumbai Police, BMC ward office, Adani Electricity, and the Public Works Department. Over a dozen fire engines, hydraulic ladders, and two firefighting robots were used during the operation. At least 12 motor pumps and three hose lines were active at the scene.
The cause of the fire is still being investigated. Officials have said that a full report will be shared once the inquiry is completed.
This incident highlights how new technology, like firefighting robots, is starting to play an important role in emergency services in Mumbai. Such tools can make response efforts quicker and safer, especially in large and complex buildings.
