Mumbai To Konkan Ro-Ro Ferry From September 1: Routes, Timings, Fares And Travel Details

Maharashtra is set to launch a new Ro-Ro (roll-on/roll-off) ferry service from Mumbai to the Konkan coast on September 1, promising a significant reduction in travel time and a major boost to coastal connectivity. The service, operated by the M2M vessel, will connect Mumbai with Ratnagiri's Jaigad and Sindhudurg's Vijaydurg, offering passengers a faster, more convenient alternative to road travel.

At present, the road journey along the heavily congested Mumbai-Goa highway can take 10-12 hours. With the Ro-Ro service, the same trip will be completed in just three hours to Jaigad and five hours to Vijaydurg. The ferry will depart from Mumbai's Bhaucha Dhakka and dock at specially developed jetties in both destinations.

Ticket fares have been designed to remain accessible for a wide range of travelers. Economy Class tickets will start at ₹2,500, while First Class fares will cost ₹9,000. Vehicle transport is also available, with rates set at ₹6,000 for cars, ₹1,000 for two-wheelers, and ₹600 for bicycles. The vessel has the capacity to carry 50 four-wheelers, 30 two-wheelers, and mini-buses, making it a practical choice for families and groups traveling with their own vehicles.

Touted as South Asia's fastest Ro-Ro, the ferry is equipped with advanced safety systems to ensure passenger security. Authorities note that the service will prove especially useful during peak travel periods such as Ganeshotsav and Holi, when congestion on the Mumbai-Goa highway is at its worst.

The project builds on the success of the Mumbai-Alibaug Ro-Ro route, which has already transformed short-distance travel by providing a quicker and more scenic alternative to road journeys. Encouraged by its popularity, the state government now plans to extend the Konkan route further, with proposed future stops at Shrivardhan and Mandwa, and a long-term goal of stretching the service up to Goa.

With its speed, comfort, affordability, and the added convenience of carrying vehicles, the Mumbai-Konkan Ro-Ro ferry is poised to redefine coastal travel for both locals and tourists.
