Mumbai’s Metro 9 To Get Makeover: Upgraded Stations With Bike Lanes And Better Facilities For Smoother Travel
The Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) is gearing up to enhance the facilities around eight stations on the Dahisar East to Mira-Bhainder Metro 9 route, according to Lokmat.
This development aims to alleviate traffic congestion and improve accessibility for commuters using a multimodal integration approach. With the current work on the Metro 9 route progressing, MMRDA has appointed two contractors to handle the development of these stations.

The MMRDA's plan includes significant upgrades to the areas surrounding the metro stations. To address current issues such as traffic congestion, encroachments, and poor sanitary conditions, the development will focus on creating a more passenger-friendly environment.
The improvements will involve constructing dedicated bicycle lanes, expanding sidewalks, and setting up separate lanes for buses, private vehicles, and service providers. These changes are intended to ease travel and ensure smoother access to the metro stations.
A key part of the development is the emphasis on promoting the use of bicycles and public transport. By enhancing footpaths and integrating these facilities into the station areas, the MMRDA hopes to reduce reliance on personal vehicles and encourage more sustainable transportation options. This approach is also expected to minimize crowding at the stations and reduce the impact of encroachments and traffic bottlenecks.
Key Areas For Development
The multimodal integration work will be carried out at the following stations: Dahisar, Pandurangwadi, Mira Gaon, Kashigaon, Saibabanagar, Meditianagar, Shaheed Bhagat Singh Station, and Subhash Chandra Bose Stadium. The development will be executed in two separate packages. Gajanan Construction has been awarded one package, while N.A. Construction and PRS Infra will jointly manage the other.
Planned Facilities
The planned upgrades include the development of areas within 250 meters of the metro line. This will involve widening sidewalks, beautifying station premises, and constructing dedicated cycle tracks.
Additional improvements will include creating separate stops for buses, rickshaws, and private vehicles to prevent overcrowding at single points. The development will also feature enhanced lane markings, signage, benches, and e-toilets in station areas. Furthermore, solar-based street lighting and CCTV systems will be installed to improve safety and visibility.
These enhancements are designed to make the Metro 9 stations more efficient and user-friendly, ultimately providing a better travel experience for residents of Dahisar and Mira-Bhainder.
