Mumbai Rain Alert: Orange Warning In Place; Palghar Gets Red Alert, Schools Shut
Mumbai is currently experiencing a spell of intense rainfall, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting heavy to very heavy showers along with gusty winds reaching speeds of 40-50 kmph. An orange alert remains in place for the city, warning of waterlogging, traffic disruptions, and potential local flooding-particularly around high tide, expected at approximately 1:20 PM today.
In nearby Palghar, the IMD has upgraded the weather alert from orange to red, indicating a higher risk of extremely heavy rainfall at isolated locations. The red alert also points to increased threats of flash floods, landslides, and major disruptions to travel and public services. In response to the alert, authorities in Palghar have declared a holiday for schools, colleges, and Anganwadi centers on July 26 as a safety precaution.

Key Highlights:
Mumbai: Under an orange alert for heavy to very heavy rainfall, gusty winds, and rough sea conditions. The city is at risk of waterlogging and traffic issues, especially during high tide this afternoon.
Palghar: Now under a red alert with forecasts of extremely heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and possible squall-like conditions. All educational institutions have been closed for July 26 to ensure public safety.
The IMD has advised residents in both regions to stay informed through official weather updates, avoid flood-prone or low-lying areas, and steer clear of unstable structures.
People living in Mumbai and Palghar are urged to remain cautious, avoid unnecessary travel, and prepare for possible continued impacts as the weather system persists in the region.
