Mumbai New Traffic Rules: Higher Fines And Tougher Penalties For Violations—Check The Full List
Mumbai motorists will now have to be extra careful on the roads as traffic violations in the city will come with much higher penalties, according to a Times Now report. The government has introduced stricter fines and punishments to reduce accidents and ensure better discipline on the roads.
The revised penalties apply to serious offences such as drunk driving, overspeeding, signal jumping, and riding without a helmet. In some cases, repeat offenders may face a suspension of their driving licence or even imprisonment.

New Traffic Fines From March 1
1. Drunk Driving
Old Fine: Rs 1,000-Rs 1,500
New Fine: Rs 10,000 and/or 6 months in prison
Repeat Violation: Rs 15,000 and/or 2 years in prison
2. Riding Without a Helmet
Old Fine: Rs 100
New Fine: Rs 1,000 + Licence suspension for 3 months
3. Driving Without Fastening Seat Belts
Old Fine: Rs 100
New Fine: Rs 1,000
4. Using a Mobile Phone While Driving
Old Fine: Rs 500
New Fine: Rs 5,000
5. Driving Without a Valid Driving Licence
Old Fine: Rs 500
New Fine: Rs 5,000
6. Triple Riding on a Two-Wheeler
Old Fine: Rs 100
New Fine: Rs 1,000
7. Driving Without Valid Insurance
Old Fine: Rs 200-Rs 400
New Fine: Rs 2,000 and/or 3 months in prison, community service
Repeat Violation: Rs 4,000
8. Driving Without a Valid Pollution Certificate
Old Fine: Rs 1,000
New Fine: Rs 10,000 and/or up to 6 months in prison + community service
9. Dangerous Driving
Old Fine: Rs 500
New Fine: Rs 5,000
10. Not Giving Way to Emergency Vehicles (Ambulances, Fire Trucks, etc.)
Old Fine: Rs 1,000
New Fine: Rs 10,000
11. Racing or Speeding on Public Roads
Old Fine: Rs 500
New Fine: Rs 5,000
12. Overloading
Old Fine: Rs 2,000
New Fine: Rs 20,000
13. Jumping Traffic Signals
Old Fine: Rs 500
New Fine: Rs 5,000
14. Offences by Juveniles (Under 18)
Old Fine: Rs 2,500
New Fine: Rs 25,000 + 3 years of imprisonment
Vehicle registration cancelled for 1 year
Offender cannot apply for a driving licence until 25 years of age
