Mumbai-Nashik Highway Accident: Truck Drags 21-Year-Old Engineer’s Body After Birthday Party

A 21-year-old software engineer, Ayaz Shemale, tragically died in a road accident in Thane's Bhiwandi on the evening of Sunday, February 2. Ayaz, who lived in Wadala, was riding his bike with friends after attending a birthday party when disaster struck on the Mumbai-Nashik Highway.

Ayaz and his friend, 22-year-old Javed, were riding near Kasba Dhaba when Ayaz's bike hit a pothole. This caused both riders to lose control and fall. Tragically, a truck, which had been following closely behind, ran over Ayaz's leg, resulting in severe injuries. Javed narrowly escaped the same fate when his jacket got caught in the truck's tyre. In a quick-thinking move, Javed tore off his jacket and freed himself, avoiding further injury.

Adil Ansari, 21, another friend riding with them, witnessed the horrific scene. He told the police that the truck driver showed reckless behaviour after the accident. He claimed that the driver reversed the truck, dragging Ayaz's body for several meters before fleeing the scene.

Initially, the police registered the incident as an accidental death. However, following a formal complaint by Adil and further investigation, the case was reclassified as negligent driving. Police have filed charges against the truck driver, who is still on the run. Authorities have launched a manhunt to locate him.

In a separate incident, a Mercedes-Benz tourist vehicle caused an accident at Mumbai's Terminal 2 departure area on Sunday. The driver had dropped off passengers at Gate 1 but lost control of the vehicle, crashing into the ramp near Gate 3. Five people were injured, including two foreign passengers from the Czech Republic and three airport staff members. All victims are in stable condition and are being treated at Nanavati Hospital.
