Mumbai Monorail Stucks Mid Way After Power Supply Issue, Rescue Operation Underway

A monorail train in Mumbai became stuck near Mysore Colony station due to a power supply issue on Tuesday evening. This incident, which occurred during heavy rain, necessitated a rescue operation. The train was towed to the nearest station using another monorail. As a result, services between Chembur and Bhakti Park were halted at 6:15 PM.

Passengers quickly reached out to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation's emergency number 1916 for assistance. The fire brigade responded promptly with three snorkel vehicles to aid in the relief efforts. Videos of the stranded monorail, particularly one showing it stuck on a curve, quickly went viral on social media.

Impact on Mumbai's Transport Services

The Maha Mumbai Metro Operation Corporation released a statement addressing the situation: "One Monorail train near Mysore Colony station has experienced a minor power supply issue. Our operations and maintenance teams are already on-site and working to resolve it quickly. For now, services between Wadala and Chembur are running smoothly on a single line. We sincerely thank you for your patience and assure you that your safety remains our top priority."

Meanwhile, other transportation services in Mumbai also faced disruptions due to the weather conditions. Local trains operated by Central Railway were severely affected as tracks were submerged under up to 17 inches of water in some areas. This led to significant hardships for commuters until services were restored after several hours.

Airport Operations Affected

The Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport in Mumbai also experienced delays averaging 40 minutes for flights on Tuesday evening. Eight flights had to circle before landing, while three were diverted in the afternoon. In total, there were 17 go-arounds and 11 diversions throughout the day.

Earlier that morning, heavy rainfall had already caused significant disruptions at the airport, resulting in eight flight diversions between 9 AM and 9:50 AM. These weather-related challenges added further strain to Mumbai's transportation network.

The adverse weather conditions not only affected monorail operations but also disrupted other modes of transport within and connecting to Mumbai. As authorities worked tirelessly to restore normalcy, passengers faced considerable inconvenience across various transit systems.
