Mumbai Local Train Services Disrupt Due To Technical Issue On Harbour Line; Thousands Of Passengers Stranded
Local train services on the Harbour line faced disruptions on Wednesday due to a technical issue between Panvel and Khandeswar stations in Navi Mumbai. This problem left many passengers stranded both at stations along the CSMT-Panvel route and on halted trains. Officials reported that services were delayed by about 30 minutes. Efforts are underway to fix the issue and resume normal operations.
Central Railway's chief PRO, Swapnil Nila, explained that the disruption was due to track circuit problems between Panvel and Khandeshwar stations. He assured that the concerned department is actively working to resolve it. Passengers noted increased crowds as trains ran late. The Harbour Line connects Navi Mumbai with south Mumbai and western suburbs, serving around 10 lakh commuters daily.

Previous Disruptions on Harbour Line
A similar incident occurred in August when local train services on the Harbour line were disrupted due to a snag in overhead equipment between Mankhurd and Vashi railway stations. This happened on August 31 during rush hours, causing inconvenience to commuters. Services were suspended for two hours after the equipment on the Down (Vashi-bound) line broke at 7:30 am and was repaired by 9:30 am, according to a Central Railway spokesperson.
The Harbour Line plays a crucial role in connecting various parts of Mumbai, including Navi Mumbai, south Mumbai, and western suburbs. It is an essential mode of transport for many residents who rely on it for their daily commute between CSMT, Panvel, and Goregaon stations.
Authorities are committed to resolving such issues promptly to minimise inconvenience for passengers. The recent disruptions highlight the importance of maintaining infrastructure to ensure smooth operations of local train services.
Efforts continue to address the current technical snag and restore regular service as soon as possible. Meanwhile, passengers are advised to plan their travel accordingly until normalcy is restored.
