Mumbai Local Train Services: Dadar Station Expansion Project Nears Completion, Making Way For More Space

The construction of a new multi-storey building for the Government Railway Police (GRP) station above platform number 12 at Dadar Railway Station is approaching completion, marking a significant step in the ongoing efforts to decongest the station. The current GRP station, located on platform 9A, takes up considerable space and narrows down the platform, contributing to congestion. The plan is to relocate the station to the new building, clearing the way for platform expansion and a new deck above it, as per the Midday report.

The new GRP station building is situated above the station master's office and provides a view of the main circle opposite the Swaminarayan Mandir. It also has direct access to the main road. According to officials, the station should be ready for relocation within a few weeks. The widening of platform 8 and the completion of the double discharge for platform 9A have already been finished. The next step is to widen platform 9 and platform 9A, with an elevated deck being built above them.

Currently, platform 9 ends abruptly at the CSMT-end, with the GRP station, a toilet block, and some debris blocking the way. The new plan involves relocating the GRP station, removing the toilet block, and clearing the space to create a seamless and wider platform. This is expected to improve commuter flow, similar to the recent expansion work carried out at Thane station.

The work at Dadar involves shifting utilities, relocating the police station, removing unnecessary structures, and widening the platforms. The project follows previous reports by mid-day on the difficulties faced by the railway police in managing the overcrowded platform. Former Mumbai Divisional Railway Manager Rajneesh Goyal had previously promised to widen the platform and drew up a master plan to enhance the station's capacity for passengers.
