Mumbai Coastal Road Project Update: New Subway Between Worli And Sea Link Set To Open Soon
Mumbai's traffic situation may soon improve as the Municipal Corporation is preparing to open a new underground subway in early May, according to a Lokmat report. This subway is part of the Mumbai Coastal Road project and will help reduce congestion between Worli, Prabhadevi, Nariman Point, and the Bandra-Worli Sea Link.
Second Underground Passage In Coastal Road Project
This subway is the second underground route in the Coastal Road project, after the undersea tunnel between Marine Drive and Priyadarshini Park. It measures around 520 metres in length, and the construction work is now in its final stage.
The subway will play a key role in connecting South Mumbai and the Western Suburbs via the Sewri Connector, helping passengers save both time and fuel.
Route Details
The subway will begin at J. K. Kapoor Chowk, close to Worli Seaface, and will end at Bindu Madhav Thackeray Chowk. After this point, drivers can choose to continue south towards Nariman Point or north towards the Western Suburbs using the Coastal Road.
Vehicles coming from the Sewri-Worli Connector will be able to join the Coastal Road more smoothly, making it easier to travel to key parts of the city.
Final Inter-Lane Coming Soon
After this subway opens, the corporation is also planning to open the last inter-lane of the Coastal Road. This lane will run from Baroda Palace to Lotus Jetty, completing the total of 18 inter-lanes planned for the Coastal Road project.
Clarification On Tunnel Moisture Photos
Recently, some photos went viral on social media showing what looked like a water leak inside one of the Coastal Road tunnels. However, the Municipal Corporation clarified that there is no actual leakage.
They explained that the top cover of the tunnel is made of fireboard, which doesn't allow water to pass through. What people saw was moisture caused by dust and humidity, along with patchwork that had not yet been painted.
A Step Towards Smoother Travel
This new subway is part of several projects by the Municipal Corporation to ease traffic in Mumbai. The Coastal Road project is an ambitious plan to connect various parts of the city with fast and safe inter-lanes and tunnels, making daily travel easier for Mumbaikars.
Once open, the new subway is expected to be a major relief for commuters, especially those who travel regularly between South Mumbai and the Western suburbs.
