MSRTC To Deploy 1,000 New Buses For School Trips, Offers 50% Fare Discount

Maharashtra Minister Pratap Sarnaik has announced that new state transport buses will be introduced for school and college trips this year, along with a 50% fare discount to ensure affordable and secure travel for students.

According to a statement from Sarnaik's office on Sunday, the Maharashtra State Transport Corporation (MSRTC) will make 800 to 1,000 new buses available every day for educational institutions across 251 depots.

"To ensure safe and economical travel for students, MSRTC will provide new buses for school trips this year. After the Diwali vacation, students look forward to educational tours, and the state government is supporting this by offering a 50% discount on the total fare," said Sarnaik, who also serves as the corporation's chairman.

Between November 2024 and February this year, MSRTC deployed 19,624 buses for educational tours, generating ₹92 crore in revenue, including reimbursements, the release noted.

For 2025-26, Sarnaik has directed depot managers and station heads to proactively coordinate with schools and colleges.

"Depot chiefs and station officers will meet with school and college principals to encourage them to schedule tours to major historical and religious sites across the state," the statement added.
