MHADA Lottery 2025: 5,000 New Flats Up For Grabs This Diwali; Check Key Dates And Registration Details
The Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA) has announced that it will conduct a lottery for around 5,000 homes during this upcoming Diwali season, between September and October, according to a Lokmat report. The announcement was made by MHADA Vice Chairman Sanjeev Jaiswal during an event held at the MHADA headquarters in Bandra on Monday.
At the event, Jaiswal also inaugurated the Citizen Facilitation Centre and Visitor Management System. Speaking at the event, he highlighted various redevelopment projects being undertaken by MHADA across the city and its suburbs. This includes the redevelopment of old, dilapidated buildings, such as those in Adarsh Nagar (Worli), Guru Teg Bahadur Nagar (Chunabhatti), Motilal Nagar, and PMGP Colony (Jogeshwari), along with the redevelopment of cessed buildings.

MHADA is focusing on group redevelopment projects to meet the increasing demand for housing in Mumbai. The Vice Chairman mentioned that as part of the redevelopment initiative, residents would benefit from the improvement of older MHADA colonies and the creation of new housing units through the redevelopment of these areas.
To ensure affordability, MHADA is reviewing the prices of houses while also considering a revision of income group criteria. Though the prices of MHADA houses are generally lower than those of private builders, the rising housing costs in Mumbai remain a challenge. Jaiswal reiterated that despite the increasing prices, MHADA is dedicated to providing relief to common citizens by offering more affordable housing options.
Additionally, MHADA is set to redevelop its old headquarters building in Bandra. The redevelopment of BDD Chawl in Worli is progressing quickly, and a lottery was conducted to allocate houses to the residents in the first phase of the redevelopment project. However, due to issues related to occupancy certificates (OC), the residents were unable to move in immediately. Thankfully, Municipal Commissioner Bhushan Gagrani has clarified that the necessary permits are being processed, and residents of the first phase are expected to receive their house keys by May 15.
With these redevelopment projects and the upcoming lottery for 5,000 houses, MHADA aims to ease the housing crisis in Mumbai and provide affordable homes to its residents.
