Maharashtra Weather Report: IMD Issues Yellow Alert For Heavy Rainfall in Mumbai, Thane, and Palghar
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for heavy rainfall in Mumbai, Thane, and Palghar until June 26, 2025. Some reports also indicate an orange alert for intense showers on the same day in Mumbai and the wider Konkan region. Residents should prepare for significant rain and potential disruptions.
According to weather forecasts, June26 will see predominantly overcast skies with frequent moderate to heavy rain, especially in the morning and late evening. Temperatures are expected to range from a high of 30-31°C to a low of 23-24°C. The Konkan region may experience intermittent heavy showers accompanied by thunderstorms.

High Tide Advisory
A high tide warning is in place through June 26, with the highest tide anticipated on that day. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) advises avoiding beaches and coastal areas during high tide hours due to possible flooding. Coastal breezes might reach gusts of up to 30-40 km/h during storms.
The hourly forecast for June 26 suggests cloudy conditions with occasional rain in the early hours at around 28°C. Rainfall is expected to increase by morning as temperatures rise to approximately 29-30°C. Midday may bring mostly cloudy skies with brief dry spells, while recurrent showers and thunderstorms are likely in the afternoon and evening, peaking mid-afternoon. Nighttime will see persistent rain with temperatures dropping back to around 28°C.
Safety Guidelines & Impacts
Commuters should anticipate delays due to waterlogging and traffic congestion; carrying umbrellas or rain gear is advisable. It is crucial to avoid coastal areas during high tide peaks in the morning and evening. Public services like BMC remain vigilant for flooding and drainage issues.
Health precautions include keeping surroundings dry, using mosquito repellents, and dressing suitably to prevent wet-weather illnesses. These measures are essential as the southwest monsoon officially began around June 10 in Mumbai, now firmly established, leading to intensified rainfall.
Why This Weather?
The onset of Mumbai's southwest monsoon has resulted in increased rainfall activity since its official start around June 10. The new Bharat Forecast System (BFS), launched on May 26, enhances short-range monsoon predictions, aiding timely alerts like this one.
