Maharashtra: Shocking Hair Loss Reported Among People In Three Villages, Probe Launched
Panic has struck three villages in Maharashtra due to a strange phenomenon - men, women, and children are suddenly experiencing significant hair loss and going bald.
Approximately 30 to 40 individuals in these villages in Buldhana district have reported rapid hairfall, prompting authorities to launch an investigation into the cause.

What is particularly alarming is that, in some cases, individuals have lost all their hair within a matter of days.
It remains unclear whether a specific disease or other factors are responsible for the sudden hair loss. The incidents have sparked widespread anxiety and panic across the district.
Following numerous reports of people experiencing sudden hairfall, officials from the district health department visited the villages of Bondgaon, Kalwad, and Hingna to investigate the issue and examine the affected individuals in an attempt to identify the cause.
One elderly woman shared that she had been experiencing hair loss since the previous Sunday and had kept her fallen hair in a small bag. A young man explained that he had been noticing rapid hairline thinning over the past 10 days, and his facial hair (beard) was also falling out.
Many of those affected by hair loss have shaved their heads. A skincare expert, part of the investigation team, mentioned that water samples from the three villages have been sent for testing.
The expert also recommended conducting scalp biopsies of affected individuals to help identify the disease, if any.
The sarpanch (village head) reported the issue to the district health department three days ago.
"As soon as we received the information, we sent a skin specialist and an epidemiologist to the village for a preliminary investigation. Around 99 per cent of the cases show a fungal infection of the scalp, which is causing hair loss. We will also test the water to check for heavy metals, as they can exacerbate fungal infections. We will take skin samples from 2 to 4 patients and send them to Akola Medical College for microscopy," said District Health Officer Amol Geete.
The results of the water sample tests and biopsies are expected within two to three days. Geete added that, at this point, nothing definitive can be said about the cause of the hair loss.
