Maharashtra Election: Shiv Sena's Digvijay Bagal Infuses Energy In Karmala This Poll Season

Solapur district in Western Maharashtra is considered politically sensitive. The district has a significant presence of horticultural farming, a network of cooperative institutions, and a large number of sugar mills.

Several prominent political leaders, including Vijay Singh Mohite Patil, Sushil Kumar Shinde, Dilip Soplal, Rajendra Raut, Ranjitsingh Mohite Patil, Dhairyashil Mohite Patil, Dhavalsingh Mohite Patil, Shahaji Bapu Patil, Ganpatrao Deshmukh, Digambar Bagal, Rashmi Bagal, and Praniti Shinde, have made their mark in the politics of Solapur district.

Karmala taluka is a significant constituency in Solapur district, with the Bagal family dominating the region's political landscape. The sugar mill industry in the area is controlled by the Bagal family. Rashmi Bagal tried to continue her father's legacy in the Karmala-Madha assembly constituency. However, she was narrowly defeated in 2014. In the 2019 elections, Sanjay Mama Shinde won as an independent candidate, defeating Narayan Patil and Rashmi Bagal. In this election, Eknath Shinde gave a ticket to Digvijay Bagal from the Bagal family, while Narayan Patil from Mahayuti contested against him. Sanjay Mama Shinde will also contest as an independent candidate.

In the 2019 election, Rashmi Bagal contested as a Shiv Sena candidate, while Sanjay Mama Shinde contested as an independent. Narayan Patil, who contested from the Mahavikas Aghadi alliance, was also an independent candidate at that time.

Opportunities for Youth Leadership

Currently, the Karmala and Madha talukas form this constituency. Narayan Patil and Digvijay Bagal belong to Karmala taluka, while Sanjay Mama Shinde is from Madha taluka. Sanjay Mama Shinde, who had served as the District Council President, had maintained his influence in the constituency. However, the dynamics have changed, with Digvijay Bagal, a young leader, emerging unexpectedly from the Bagal family.

Rashmi Bagal's Involvement

The Bagal family maintains its dominance in Karmala taluka, and they are also gaining significant support from Madha taluka. Digvijay Bagal has already started his campaign, receiving a good response from the youth. Rashmi Bagal is actively participating in Digvijay's campaign, receiving support from women as well. She is convincing voters that the opposition is attempting to tarnish the Bagal family's image. As Digvijay Bagal is a new face, this has proven beneficial for their campaign.

A Fresh Momentum for the Bagal Group

After consecutive defeats, the Bagal group had weakened and lacked leadership. The group needed fresh, dynamic leadership, which has been provided by Digvijay Bagal. His active involvement has breathed new life into the Bagal group. Eknath Shinde has also supported Digvijay Bagal. Tananji Sawant, the MLA of Bhum Paranda and the state's Health Minister, has also extended support to the Bagal group. The Bagal family previously had close ties with the NCP (Nationalist Congress Party), so it is likely that old NCP workers will support the Bagal family.

The Mahayuti government has performed admirably in the state, completing numerous infrastructure projects during its tenure. The government has focused particularly on providing roads, water, and infrastructure in rural areas. In the Karmala-Madha constituency, both the Bagal family and the BJP have significant influence.

The "Ladki Bahin Yojana" by the Chief Minister has had a notable impact, particularly among women in the constituency, as it has across the state.

This has made it appear likely that Digvijay Bagal will overcome the challenge posed by Narayan Patil from Mahavikas Aghadi and Independent candidate Sanjay Mama Shinde.
