Eknath Shinde's Efforts Bearing Fruits - Manachiwadi Becomes Maharashtra's First Solar Village

Maharashtra is an industrial as well as agricultural state, having made remarkable progress in both areas, with steps taken in these sectors widely praised across the country.

For both industry and agriculture, a substantial amount of energy is required, and Maharashtra's efforts to increase energy production have been notably commendable.

Eknath Shinde s Efforts Bearing Fruits

For many years, Maharashtra has relied on hydroelectric and thermal power. Hydroelectric projects like the Koyna Dam have met a significant part of Maharashtra's energy needs, while thermal energy projects in various regions have also propelled the state towards development.

Later, wind energy initiatives were introduced, and today, the sight of wind turbines spinning on the hills of western Maharashtra symbolises the state's advancements in the energy sector.

Over time, many changes have taken place in the field of energy production. States like Gujarat have made impressive strides in solar energy, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasising renewable and clean energy sources, resulting in the establishment of the largest solar energy park in Gujarat.

Following Modi's example, Maharashtra's Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has also taken extensive steps towards renewable energy. Maharashtra is now on a path where solar energy is anticipated to meet a significant portion of the state's energy needs, a direction for which credit must be given to Eknath Shinde.

Significant Achievements in Energy Generation

In the past two and a half years, the state government has accomplished substantial work in the energy sector, focusing on the common man.

From April, 44 lakh farmers across Maharashtra will receive free electricity for five years. The Chief Minister's Solar Agricultural Feeder Scheme and the "Electricity on Demand" Solar Agricultural Pump Scheme aim to provide daytime electricity.

Through the Prime Minister's Surya Ghar Free Electricity Scheme, household electricity bills are also being reduced to near zero. By effectively implementing these schemes, the state government is committed to providing significant financial relief to farmers and household consumers, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has affirmed.

Manachiwadi: The First 'Solar Village' in Maharashtra

To ensure self-sufficiency in electricity for villages, the state government has launched active initiatives, and their impact is becoming visible.

The village of Manachiwadi in Patan taluka, Satara district, has been entirely solar-powered through the efforts of Mahavitaran (Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited).

At the inauguration of Maharashtra's first 'solar village,' Chief Minister Shinde highlighted that, previously, the village incurred electricity bills of Rs 5.25 lakh, which are now zero due to solar energy.

A campaign is now underway to power 100 villages entirely with solar energy, with village selections already complete. Solar energy is proving especially beneficial for domestic and agricultural consumers.

The state government has also announced a "Solar Agricultural Pump on Demand" scheme, providing farmers from open categories with solar pumps of up to 7.5 horsepower by paying 10% of the cost, while Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe farmers need to pay only 5%, with the remaining cost covered by state subsidies, according to Deputy Chief Minister and Energy Minister Devendra Fadnavis.

Future Solar Energy Production of 12,000 Megawatts

The state government is making efforts to significantly increase solar energy production. In the next 18 months, Maharashtra aims to produce 12,000 megawatts of electricity through solar energy, which will be supplied to farmers during the day, eliminating the need for night-time irrigation. Maharashtra has gained a leading position in solar energy.

Agreements Worth Rs 47,000 Crore

To meet the central government's ambitious target of zero carbon emissions by 2070, Maharashtra has signed four Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) worth Rs 47,500 crore for renewable energy production.

These projects align with the state's goal of achieving 50% renewable energy by 2030 and will create 18,828 jobs. The state government is inclined towards energy production using natural resources, aiming to reduce reliance on traditional energy projects and coal.

Maharashtra to Remain at the Forefront

Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has accelerated various infrastructure projects in Maharashtra, many of which are now complete or inaugurated. Several irrigation projects have received revised administrative approvals, and approval has been obtained for river-linking projects.

Through new initiatives in the critical energy sector, which is essential for the state's progress, Eknath Shinde has ensured that Maharashtra will continue to lead the way.
