Blood Bank In Maharashtra: e-Blood Bank Portal Makes Blood Supply Easy And Instant; Know Its Features
The Union Health Ministry has introduced the 'e-Blood Bank Portal' to make it easier for patients, blood donation camp organisers, and others to access information about available blood supplies, according to a Lokmat report. With just a single click, users can now view real-time data on blood availability, significantly reducing the hassle for families of patients needing blood for conditions such as thalassemia, hemophilia, sickle cell anaemia, and other blood-related diseases.
Easier Access To Blood Supply

In the past, patients often needed blood as part of their treatment. When a hospital couldn't provide the required blood, families would have to search multiple blood banks to find it. This could be time-consuming and stressful. The new e-Blood Bank Portal aims to resolve this issue by providing instant access to information on where the required blood is available, helping families avoid unnecessary searches.
Maharashtra Leads In Blood Collection
Maharashtra has emerged as the leading state in blood collection in India. In 2024 alone, over 21 lakh donors contributed blood, leading to the collection of vital blood components such as red blood cells, platelet concentrates, and fresh frozen plasma. This large-scale collection is vital in ensuring that blood is available for those in need across the state.
Portal Features
The portal's homepage provides key details, including the number of registered blood donors, total blood collected, and a search function to find blood based on blood group, component, and city. Blood donation organisers can also register their camps on the portal, making it easier for people to locate upcoming donation drives.
The e-Blood Bank Portal also gives an overview of the 395 blood banks and centres in Maharashtra, which include government, semi-government, trust, corporation, and private institutions. The portal will also inform users about the availability of blood in surrounding cities, helping patients and their families make informed decisions.
This initiative is part of the government's ongoing efforts to streamline blood supply systems and ensure that no patient is left waiting for life-saving blood.
