Ban Burqa For Class 10, 12 Board Exams: Nitesh Rane Writes To Maharashtra Education Minister

Maharashtra Minister Nitesh Rane has urged Education Minister Dada Bhuse to prohibit the wearing of burqas by students at 10th and 12th state board exam centres. Rane's request stems from concerns about potential cheating incidents. He emphasised that the same rules should apply to all students, regardless of their religious attire.

Rane expressed his views on the matter, stating, "Our government will not tolerate the politics of appeasement. The rules that are applicable to Hindu students, the same should apply to Muslim students as well. Those who want to wear a burqa or hijab can wear it at their homes but at the examination centres, they should write their exams like other students. There have been incidents of cheating and copying in the cases where students were wearing a burqa. All this should not happen in Maharashtra, so I have written a letter to the concerned minister..."

Concerns Over Exam Integrity

The minister's letter highlights worries about maintaining fairness during examinations. He believes that allowing burqas could lead to dishonest practices among examinees. Rane insists that uniformity in dress code is crucial for ensuring a level playing field for all candidates.

Rane's stance is rooted in past instances where students allegedly used burqas to facilitate cheating. He argues that such occurrences undermine the integrity of the examination process and must be addressed promptly.

Uniform Rules for All Students

According to Rane, implementing consistent regulations for all students is essential. He stresses that religious attire should not interfere with exam protocols. By advocating for this ban, he aims to eliminate any potential loopholes that might compromise exam security.

The minister's proposal seeks to create an environment where every student adheres to the same guidelines during exams. This approach is intended to prevent any form of bias or preferential treatment based on religious clothing.
