Ajit Pawar Announces Free Guillain-Barre Syndrome Treatment In Maharashtra On Republic Day 2025

Mumbai News: Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar marked the 76th Republic Day celebrations by hoisting the national flag in Pune on Sunday.

In his address, he extended warm wishes to citizens across Maharashtra and the nation, stating, "On this special occasion, I wish all citizens a happy Republic Day. I also congratulate all the Padma awardees and President Medal recipients from Maharashtra," as reported by the NewsMill.

Free Treatment for Guillain-Barre Syndrome

Highlighting the growing number of Guillain-Barre Syndrome (GBS) cases in Pune, Ajit Pawar made a significant announcement. "The treatment for GBS is costly, with injections alone priced at around ₹8,000, while private facilities charge nearly ₹20,000. After consulting with district administration and municipal corporation officials, we have decided to provide free treatment for affected citizens," he said.

The facilities offering free treatment include:

• YCM Hospital for residents of Pimpri-Chinchwad
• Kamla Nehru Hospital for citizens in Pune Municipal Corporation areas
• Sassoon Hospital for residents of rural areas

Pawar assured that additional measures would be taken once he returned to Mumbai.

GBS is a rare medical condition characterized by sudden muscle weakness and numbness, often requiring expensive treatment, as per the local media news report.

Update on Sharad Pawar's Health

Addressing concerns about Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) Chief Sharad Pawar's health, Ajit Pawar revealed that the senior leader had faced chest congestion during a recent event. Despite advice from family and party members to rest, Sharad Pawar insisted on attending a programme in Kolhapur, which aggravated his condition. "He is now following doctors' advice and resting for four days," Ajit Pawar added.

Republic Day Highlights

Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tribute to fallen soldiers at the National War Memorial in Delhi. Following this, President Droupadi Murmu unfurled the national flag, assisted by Indian Navy officers Lieutenant Shubham Kumar and Lieutenant Yogita Saini, as per media reports.

This year's Republic Day celebrations featured Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto as the chief guest. The event commemorated 75 years since the enactment of the Constitution and emphasized "Jan Bhagidari" (people's participation).
