Navpatrika Puja 2025: Celebrating the Significance of This Hindu Festival

Navpatrika Puja, also known as Maha Saptami Puja, is a significant Hindu festival celebrated on 29th September 2025, which falls on a Monday. This festival is part of the larger Durga Puja celebrations and holds great importance for the Hindu community. Navpatrika Puja symbolises the victory of good over evil. According to legend, Mahishasura, a demonic Buffalo King, was granted invincibility by Lord Brahma. He became a threat to the world, prompting the emergence of Goddess Durga from the energies of the Gods. Her victory over Mahishasura is celebrated during Durga Puja.

The Navpatrika Puja is performed on Maha Saptami. On this day, nine plants, including a branch of the Bilva tree, are worshipped as Navpatrika. These plants are purified through Abhishekam and adorned with red or orange cloth. The Navpatrika is placed next to Goddess Durga's idol, where she is invoked.

How Navpatrika Puja is Celebrated

The celebration begins with purifying the Navpatrika through Abhishekam. The plants are then dressed in red or orange cloth and placed beside Goddess Durga's idol. The Prana Pratishthan ceremony consecrates the idol, followed by Shodashopachara Puja, where Goddess Durga is worshipped with sixteen different offerings.
