BJP's Tarun Chugh Likens Mamata Banerjee To Jinnah Over Murshidabad Unrest

Following recent violence in the Murshidabad district, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee was the target of a harsh attack from BJP national general secretary Tarun Chugh on Sunday, who compared her actions to those of Mohammad Ali Jinnah. Chugh said Banerjee's image now resembles that of a "modern Jinnah" in reference to the turmoil surrounding the Waqf (Amendment) Act. She also accused her party, the Trinamool Congress (TMC), of operating similarly to the Muslim League prior to independence.

Mamata Banerjee is currently doing what Jinnah did back then. Her party is behaving like the Muslim League of the 1940s, and she has come to represent a contemporary Jinnah," Chugh told ANI. The TMC government has continuously jeopardized the safety of the Hindu community under the pretense of appeasing minorities, he added, and he denounced Banerjee's silence regarding the deaths of three people during the recent protests.

CRPF Deployed, BJP Alleges State-Sponsored Violence

Following the violence in Murshidabad, the West Bengal Police arrested 150 people and increased security deployment in affected areas such as Samserganj and Dhuliyan. The Union Ministry of Home Affairs also announced the dispatch of five additional CRPF companies to the region at the state government's request.

BJP spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla joined the criticism, accusing the TMC government of enabling what he called "state-sponsored, state-protected, and state-encouraged targeted violence against Hindus." He alleged that Hindus were being forced to flee, temples were being vandalized, and shops and homes were being selectively torched.

Idols are being destroyed, temples are being attacked, and saffron flags are being taken down. This is taking place in Bengal, the home of Swami Vivekananda. "Mamata Banerjee ought to feel embarrassed," Poonawalla said.

Mamata Banerjee, the chief minister, has urged calm and assured demonstrators that West Bengal will not implement the Waqf (Amendment) Act.
