After Changing Officers, Why No Action? Mamata Banerjee Slams Murshidabad Clashes, Says “Don’t Blame Me”

Mamata Banerjee on Saturday raised serious concerns over the clashes reported during a Ram Navami procession in Murshidabad's Raghunathganj. Speaking at a public event in Durgapur, she questioned why action had not been taken against those responsible for the violence.

Her remarks come amid heightened political tensions in West Bengal over incidents linked to religious processions.

"We Have No Objection to Processions, But Not Violence"

Banerjee made it clear that her government does not oppose religious processions. However, she stressed that such events must remain peaceful.

She said, "If you take out a Ram Navami procession, we have no objection. Our boys and girls also take out processions, but they do not create riots."

She pointed out that processions have been held across the state without any trouble, raising questions about why violence occurred in Raghunathganj.

Raises Concern Over Weapons in Processions

Referring to another incident, Banerjee alleged that weapons were carried during a procession in Siliguri.

She said, "You took out a procession in Siliguri the other day, raising guns. I do not understand why the administration is not taking action."

She also suggested that administrative powers were not fully in her control, adding that she should not be blamed for every incident.

Direct Attack on BJP

The Chief Minister accused members of the Bharatiya Janata Party of being involved in the violence in Raghunathganj.

She said, "You removed people from my control and created riots in Raghunathganj. BJP did this-you should be ashamed."

Banerjee further alleged that shops were looted during the unrest, questioning who had given permission for such actions.

She warned, "Today or tomorrow, I will not spare those responsible. People will judge you."

Speaks on Religious Structures and Bulldozer Action

Banerjee also addressed issues related to damage to religious places, stating that she does not support such actions under any circumstances.

She said, "If a Shiva temple is broken, some people create drama. I do not support breaking any temple."

She also criticised demolition drives, adding, "Who gave you the right to break people's houses? Who gave you the right to create riots in Raghunathganj?"

Referring to reported bulldozer action, she said it was not under her control and expressed concern over how it was carried out.

Expresses Regret and Apology

During her speech, Banerjee expressed regret over the situation and apologised for the unrest.

She said, "I am sorry. I apologise."

She also cautioned against playing with fire in sensitive situations, urging all sides to maintain peace and follow the law.
