WATCH | Vladimir Putin And Kim Jong Un Take Turns Driving Russian-Made Limousine
During a carefully orchestrated public relations event, Vladimir Putin and Kim Jong Un were chauffeured in a Russian-made Aurus limousine, underscoring the depth of their bilateral ties during Putin's historic visit to Pyongyang, his first in nearly twenty-five years.
The occasion was marked by a series of symbolic gestures, including the presentation of an Aurus limousine by Putin to Kim as a gift, further cementing their diplomatic rapport.

In footage released by Russian state TV, Putin was seen behind the wheel of the black armored Aurus, which serves as his official presidential vehicle in Russia, with Kim seated beside him in the passenger seat. The scene unfolded as the limousine navigated through a meticulously manicured park area before coming to a stop.

A Korean attendant, attired in a suit and white gloves, promptly opened the door for Kim and then circled around to assist Putin. Following their brief drive, Putin and Kim were depicted walking side by side along a pathway in a wooded setting, engaged in animated conversation, presumably with translators trailing behind.

This moment exemplified the camaraderie and mutual respect between the two leaders, symbolized by the exchange of the luxury vehicle. Earlier in the day, a spokesperson for Putin confirmed that the Russian president had gifted Kim an Aurus limousine, marking the second such vehicle bestowed upon the North Korean leader since February.
The Aurus Senat, designed in homage to the Soviet-era ZIL limousine, serves as the official presidential car in Russia, and Putin himself had used one during his recent inauguration at the Kremlin. This gesture of automotive diplomacy underscores Putin's ongoing efforts to bolster ties with North Korea amidst geopolitical complexities.
The Aurus brand, manufactured in Russia's Tatarstan region since 2021, reflects Putin's strategy to utilize domestic production capabilities, including plans to commence manufacturing at a former Toyota facility in St. Petersburg later this year. In light of global sanctions and economic shifts in the automotive industry, Russia's pivot towards domestic production of luxury vehicles like Aurus aims to mitigate economic pressures and enhance national automotive self-sufficiency.
