Vladimir Putin's India Visit: Dates To Be Announced Soon, Confirms Kremlin
Russian President Vladimir Putin is set to visit India in the near future, as confirmed by Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov on Tuesday. While specific dates for the visit are yet to be announced, preparations for the trip are already underway.
"We will soon finalize the precise dates of President Putin's visit to India. Following two recent visits by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Russia, it is now time for a reciprocal visit by the President," Peskov stated.

This visit comes shortly after PM Modi and President Putin held a bilateral meeting on the sidelines of the BRICS summit in Kazan, Russia, last month. The two leaders discussed strengthening ties and mutual cooperation, reflecting the enduring partnership between the nations.
Putin's ICC Arrest Warrant: What It Means for India
The announcement of Putin's visit comes amid international controversy surrounding his status under an arrest warrant issued by the International Criminal Court (ICC) for alleged war crimes in Ukraine. The ICC issued warrants in March 2023 against both Putin and Maria Lvova-Belova, Russia's commissioner for child rights, citing violations during the Ukraine conflict.
Under the Rome Statute, countries that are member states of the ICC are obligated to detain individuals with active warrants upon their arrival. However, India has neither signed nor ratified the Rome Statute, which means it is not legally bound to act on the warrant against Putin.
India's position on the Ukraine war has also drawn international attention. The country has consistently abstained from UN resolutions condemning Russia's actions in Ukraine and continues to import Russian oil, despite criticism from Western nations led by the United States.
Strengthening Bilateral Ties
India and Russia have historically maintained strong diplomatic and economic ties. Putin's upcoming visit is expected to focus on deepening cooperation in energy, defense, and trade sectors.
As the world watches closely, the visit underscores India's balanced diplomatic approach, navigating its strategic relationships with Russia while engaging with Western nations.
