"ELIMINATED: A Leading Hamas Sniper and Nukhba Forces Commander who Participated in the Oct. 7 Massacre. IAF aircraft conducted a precise and targeted strike to eliminate the Hamas terrorist Ahmed Hassan Salame Alsauarka in the area of Beit Hanoun in northern Gaza," the Israeli Defence Forces (IDF) said in a post on Thursday.
"Alsauarka was a squad commander in the Nukhba Forces who infiltrated into and carried out attacks on communities in southern Israel during the Oct. 7 Massacre. Alsauarka led and directed sniper activity in the area of Beit Hanoun and took part in Hamas' attacks on IDF troops," the IDF added. Before the strike, several steps were taken to mitigate harm to civilians during the operation, the IDF said.
As a consequence, no civilians were harmed during the strike. This strike in Gaza occurred amid increased tensions between Israel and Hezbollah, with both sides exchanging fire across the border. Israel recently disclosed its approval of plans for an offensive in Lebanon, prompting Hezbollah to vow retaliatory rocket attacks.
Hezbollah claimed responsibility for launching numerous rockets into northern Israel on Thursday in response to an Israeli airstrike in southern Lebanon that allegedly killed one of their operatives. Throughout the day, Hezbollah also reported several other assaults on Israeli positions and soldiers, as reported by India Today.
The Israeli military stated that its aircraft targeted two weapons storage facilities and several other locations belonging to Hezbollah. Additionally, Israeli artillery was employed to neutralize threats in various areas of southern Lebanon. Just before midnight, the military reported successfully intercepting a suspicious airborne target originating from Lebanon.
Since Hamas's October 7 attack on southern Israel, triggering hostilities in Gaza, Hezbollah and Israeli forces have engaged in almost daily exchanges of fire, accompanied by heightened rhetoric and military actions.
Hamas's October attack resulted in the deaths of 1,194 individuals, with militants also taking hostages, of whom 116 are still held in Gaza, although the army claims 41 have died. Israel's retaliatory operations in Gaza have reportedly resulted in the deaths of at least 37,431 people, according to the health ministry in the Hamas-ruled territory, as per media reports.
