Uzbekistan National Arrested For Assassination Of Russian Chemical Weapons Chief Igor Kirillov

Russia's Federal Security Service (FSB) confirmed the detention of a suspect in connection with the killing of a senior Russian general in Moscow. The suspect, an Uzbek citizen, was reportedly recruited by Ukrainian intelligence services. While the FSB did not release the suspect's name, they stated he was born in 1995. According to the FSB's statement, the suspect admitted to being recruited by Ukrainian special services.

Lt. Gen. Igor Kirillov, the head of Russia's military nuclear, biological, and chemical protection forces, was killed on Tuesday in a bombing orchestrated outside his Moscow apartment. The bomb was concealed in a scooter, and the attack occurred a day after Ukraine's security service filed criminal charges against Kirillov. A Ukrainian official later claimed responsibility for the attack, stating that the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) had carried it out.

In addition to Kirillov, his assistant also died in the explosion.

Russian authorities have yet to respond to Ukraine's claim of responsibility for the attack.

On Monday, Ukraine's security services had charged Kirillov with the use of prohibited chemical weapons during Russia's invasion, which began in February 2022.

Investigators, forensic teams, and emergency responders continued their work at the scene late Tuesday morning, with footage from the Investigative Committee showing emergency vehicles outside the damaged apartment building where the blast occurred.
