US Army Soldier Quandarius Stanley Passes Away Following Injury at Gaza Humanitarian Aid Pier
A US Army soldier, Sgt. Quandarius Stanley, passed away after sustaining injuries in May while working on a pier built by the US to deliver aid to Gaza. The 23-year-old motor transport operator was critically injured when severe weather conditions damaged the pier, causing four Army vessels to become stranded. Two other soldiers were also hurt but have since returned to duty.

US military officials have not disclosed specific details about Stanley's injury, only noting it was non-combat related. He died last Thursday and was part of the 7th Transportation Brigade Expeditionary at Joint Base Langley-Eustis in Virginia. "Sgt. Quandarius Stanley was an instrumental and well respected first-line leader in the 7th Transportation Brigade Expeditionary TBX, especially during the mission to provide humanitarian assistance to the people of Gaza. We will continue to provide support to his family during this difficult time," said Col. John "Eddie" Gray, brigade commander. "Our entire unit mourns alongside his family."
Humanitarian Aid Challenges
The pier project faced numerous challenges, including unexpected bad weather and security concerns. Safety issues involving Israeli forces led aid agencies to halt distribution due to fears of injury or death. The Defence Department officially removed the pier from Gaza's shore on June 28, ending the mission in mid-July.
Despite these obstacles, nearly 20 million pounds of aid were moved onto Gaza's shore, marking what officials described as the "largest volume of humanitarian assistance" ever delivered into the Middle East. However, distributing this aid further into Gaza proved difficult as humanitarian convoys were attacked.
Stanley's Legacy and Support
Capt. Shkeila Milford-Glover, spokesperson for the 3rd Expeditionary Sustainment Command, mentioned that Stanley had recently retired and was receiving care at a long-term medical facility. The military continues to support his family during this challenging period.
The mission aimed to deliver essential supplies to Gaza amid ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas. Despite significant efforts, aid agencies struggled to transport food from the shore to areas in need due to attacks on humanitarian convoys.
The loss of Sgt. Stanley is deeply felt within his unit and by those who knew him. His contributions during the mission were significant, and his leadership was highly valued by his peers and superiors alike.
