Ukrainian First Lady’s Special Surprise Stop In Jaipur Before Japan Visit

A plane carrying a high-level Ukrainian delegation, including First Lady Olena Volodymyrivna Zelenska-wife of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky-and Deputy Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha, made a short halt at Jaipur International Airport on Sunday morning for refueling while on its way to Tokyo, Japan.

The aircraft, which landed around 6:30 am, had received prior clearance from India's Ministry of External Affairs. The ministry had issued instructions to the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security on August 1, requesting protocol arrangements for the delegation and exemption from pre-embarkation security procedures such as frisking.

"It is requested that necessary instructions may please be issued for exemption of pre-embarkation checking/frisking etc. for the distinguished guest as well as the delegation members," the directive stated. It further emphasized that "necessary courtesies and facilities may also be provided."

The 23-member Ukrainian delegation included notable figures such as Sergiy Kyslytsya, Ukraine's Permanent Representative to the United Nations, and Minister for Economic Affairs Oleksii Sobolev. During the refueling stop, the delegates disembarked and rested in the VIP lounge at the airport, where they were served light refreshments. Officials from the Ukrainian Embassy in New Delhi were also present in Jaipur to receive and greet the visitors.

The delegation was not required to go through immigration formalities and departed for Tokyo at around 8:15 am.

The visit to Japan is part of Ukraine's diplomatic outreach aimed at reinforcing ties between the two nations. Ukrainian representatives are expected to urge Japan to intensify sanctions on Russia and extend greater support toward Ukraine's post-war reconstruction.

India shares a longstanding bilateral relationship with Ukraine, encompassing various sectors of cooperation. India was among the first nations to recognize Ukraine's independence in December 1991 and formally established diplomatic ties in January 1992.
