Ukraine-Russia War Will End Soon! Donald Trump Says Had 'Productive Talks' With Putin
US President Donald Trump recently shared that he had "productive discussions" with Russian President Vladimir Putin about ending the war in Ukraine. He urged Putin to spare Ukrainian troops who are surrounded. Trump expressed hope that there is a "very good chance" for the conflict to end soon.
"We had very good and productive discussions with President Vladimir Putin of Russia yesterday, and there is a very good chance that this horrible, bloody war can finally come to an end," Trump stated on Truth Social. He highlighted the precarious situation of Ukrainian forces, warning of a potential massacre if Russia continues its assault.

Ceasefire Proposal and Reactions
Just days before Trump's conversation with Putin, the US proposed a 30-day ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy accepted the proposal, while Putin agreed in principle. The Kremlin confirmed its support but noted that terms need finalisation.
Putin remarked, "The idea itself is correct, and we certainly support it. But there are issues that we need to discuss." He suggested further talks with American counterparts might be necessary to finalise the truce details.
Ukraine's Position on Ceasefire
Zelenskyy expressed readiness for the ceasefire, viewing it as an opportunity to draft a long-term peace plan. "I am very serious (about a ceasefire) and for me, it is important to end the war," he told reporters in Kyiv. However, he accused Russia of setting conditions to complicate the process.
The US recently engaged in over eight hours of talks with Ukrainian officials in Saudi Arabia's Jeddah. Following these discussions, Kyiv agreed to the ceasefire proposal. The US also decided to resume military aid and intelligence sharing with Ukraine.
Russia's Stance on Peace Talks
Putin sent a message via the US special envoy regarding the ceasefire proposal. The Kremlin expressed "cautious optimism" about reaching an agreement. Earlier meetings between US officials and a Russian delegation in Jeddah also focused on ending the conflict.
The phone call between Trump and Putin occurred shortly after these developments. Trump emphasised his request for sparing Ukrainian lives, describing their situation as dire due to being surrounded by Russian forces.
"But, at this very moment, thousands of Ukrainian troops are completely surrounded by the Russian military, and in a very bad and vulnerable position," Trump tweeted. He warned that continued attacks could lead to a massacre not seen since World War II.
