‘The Biggest Bill Ever’: Trump Signs Sweeping Tax And Border Security Law With Patriotic Fanfare
President Donald Trump signed into law a sweeping package of tax and spending cuts during a July 4 outdoor ceremony at the White House, turning the national holiday into a celebratory rally for his administration's latest legislative victory.
Held on the South Lawn, the event featured military jet flyovers and a crowd of enthusiastic supporters. The signing came just one day after the Republican-majority House of Representatives narrowly passed the bill with a 218-214 vote, marking a key legislative achievement of Trump's second term.

The new law includes permanent extensions of Trump's 2017 tax cuts, significant reductions in federal spending, and major funding for expanded immigration enforcement. It is also expected to result in millions of Americans losing access to health insurance, according to independent projections.
Speaking at the ceremony, Trump praised the legislation and its impact. "I've never seen people so happy in our country because of that, because so many different groups of people are being taken care of: the military, civilians of all types, jobs of all types," he said. He also extended thanks to House Speaker Mike Johnson and Senate Majority Leader John Thune for their roles in pushing the bill through Congress.
"So you have the biggest tax cut, the biggest spending cut, the largest border security investment in American history," Trump declared, calling the law transformative for the country.
The patriotic spectacle included a flyover by stealth bombers and fighter jets-the same models used in recent U.S. airstrikes on nuclear facilities in Iran. Among those present were Republican lawmakers, White House aides, cabinet members, and military families.
After delivering a speech touting his administration's accomplishments and America's global standing, Trump signed the bill into law, posed for photographs with Republican leaders, and mingled with the crowd.
The bill represents a major win for Trump and GOP leadership, who argue the legislation will stimulate economic growth. However, critics point to a nonpartisan estimate indicating the law will add over $3 trillion to the current $36.2 trillion national debt.
Although a few Republicans voiced unease about the bill's fiscal impact and cuts to healthcare programs, only two of the House's 220 Republicans voted against it. All 212 Democrats opposed the bill.
Democratic opposition was marked by an extended floor speech from House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, who spoke for eight hours and 46 minutes. Jeffries condemned the bill as a windfall for the wealthy that would slash key support for low-income Americans, including health insurance and food aid.
Democratic National Committee Chair Ken Martin warned the GOP would face electoral consequences. "Today, Donald Trump sealed the fate of the Republican Party, cementing them as the party for billionaires and special interests - not working families," Martin said in a statement. "This legislation will hang around the necks of the GOP for years to come. This was a full betrayal of the American people. Today, we are putting Republicans on notice: you will lose your majority."
