Anant Singh Appointed to World Economic Forum's Global Arts and Culture Council
South African filmmaker Anant Singh, of Indian descent, has been named to the Global Arts and Culture Council (GACC). This council was launched during the recent World Economic Forum session in Davos. Singh is renowned for films addressing apartheid, HIV/AIDS, and gender violence, earning him international recognition. His notable work includes "Long Walk to Freedom," a Nelson Mandela biopic. In 2001, he received the WEF's Crystal Award.

Singh emphasised the crucial role of artists in today's divided world. He stated, "Artists and the creative community worldwide are the voice of the people and the custodians of humanity's storytelling. The GACC is vitally important in a fractious world where the voice and expressions of artists need to be heard to contribute to the dialogues of the journeys of millions of people."
Global Arts and Culture Council Members
The GACC was co-founded by Hilde Schwab and Professor Klaus Schwab of the World Economic Forum. Singh joins other global arts figures on this council. Members include Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, an Academy Award-winning director; George Osborne, Chair of the British Museum; Renee Fleming, a world-renowned soprano; Hans Ulrich Obrist, Artistic Director at Serpentine Gallery; Andrea Bocelli, a famous tenor; Deborah Rutter, President of the John F. Kennedy Centre for Performing Arts in the US; Nile Rodgers, musician and founder of We Are Family Foundation; Jin Xing, dancer-actress and transgender activist; Yana Peel, Global Head of Arts & Culture at Chanel; and Misty Copeland, dancer, author, and producer.

The GACC was established amid a transition from an industrial age to a more interconnected society. The founders believe that arts and culture can lead towards a unified future. They envision a group of cultural leaders using creativity to shape this new era. This council aims to harness artistic expression to foster dialogue and understanding across diverse communities.
