Hadi, a key figure in last year's student protests that led to the removal of the Awami League government, was shot on December 12 during an election campaign in Dhaka. He succumbed to his injuries in Singapore on Thursday. His death has sparked widespread unrest across Bangladesh, including attacks on Indian diplomatic properties.

Increased Security Measures

Police have bolstered security since Friday morning at several locations. These include the Assistant High Commission office in Upashahar and the visa application centre in Shobhanighat. Security personnel were also stationed overnight to ensure safety. This move comes amid rising tensions following Hadi's death.

The Inqilab Mancha spokesperson's demise led to protests and threats against Indian establishments. Gano Odhikar Parishad announced plans to besiege the Assistant High Commission office. In response, security forces have been deployed to maintain order and prevent any escalation.

Public Reaction and Funeral

Hadi's funeral took place on Saturday under tight security near Dhaka University mosque. Thousands attended, chanting slogans against perceived Indian influence. "Delhi or Dhaka - Dhaka, Dhaka" and "brother Hadi’s blood will not be allowed to go in vain" were among the chants heard during the funeral prayers.

Following the funeral, Inqilab Mancha issued a 24-hour ultimatum to the interim government. They demanded visible progress in apprehending those responsible for Hadi's assassination. The ultimatum reflects growing public frustration and demands for justice.

Political Implications

Hadi was a candidate for the upcoming general elections scheduled for February 12. His assassination has intensified political tensions in Bangladesh. The incident has also highlighted underlying issues between Bangladesh and India, with some groups accusing India of undue influence.
