Russia Claims Ukraine Fired 6 US-Made Missiles Post Ban Lift
Following a move by US President Joe Biden to relax restrictions on Ukrainian forces using American-made long-range missiles, Ukraine launched six of these missiles into Russia's Bryansk region. This action came as a response to Russia's deployment of North Korean troops along Ukraine's northern border, escalating the ongoing conflict.
The Russian Defence Ministry disclosed that their military intercepted five of the Army Tactical Missile Systems (ATAC) and neutralized one more, according to a report from The Associated Press.
Despite the missiles being brought down, debris from them landed on a military facility, sparking a fire but not resulting in any casualties.

The change in US policy by President Biden, allowing Ukraine more leeway in utilizing US-supplied weapons, was prompted by Russia's aggressive stance in the war, notably after President Vladimir Putin stationed North Korean forces to reclaim territories taken by Ukrainian troops. This significant development has led to heightened tensions between Ukraine and Russia, with the latter viewing the decision as an escalation in the conflict. The US's involvement through the provision of advanced weaponry to Ukraine marks a pivotal point in the ongoing battle, suggesting a more direct confrontation between the involved nations.
In the aftermath of the missile launches, Ukraine claimed to have targeted a military weapons depot in Bryansk, causing a series of explosions. While Ukraine did not explicitly mention the use of ATACMS in this operation, the timing suggests a link to the US's recent policy shift. The Ukrainian General Staff confirmed the occurrence of several explosions in the area, indicating a successful hit on the intended target.
This strategic military exchange underscores the complexity of the war's dynamics, with international alliances and weaponry playing crucial roles. Russia's reaction to the incident and the US's decision to empower Ukraine with more robust military capabilities signals a potential increase in the war's intensity. The Kremlin's stern warning about considering any conventional attack by a nation backed by a nuclear power as a collective assault on Russia further intensifies the global stakes of the conflict.
Putin's recent endorsement of a revised nuclear doctrine, which treats conventional attacks supported by nuclear nations as joint aggressions against Russia, adds a layer of nuclear deterrence to the already volatile situation. This doctrine revision, coupled with the ongoing military engagements, represents a stark reminder of the war's potential to escalate beyond conventional boundaries.
