Romanian Prime Minister files for presidential candidacy

"I hope and wish to conclude 25 years of transition from dictatorship to a democratic, European society, a free society united once again," Ponta said Wednesday after completion of the registration formalities at the Central Electoral Bureau.
"I want us to make all the changes needed by the Romanian society; I want to first change the president's profile - from a crises generator to a true representative of public interests, and a facilitator of dialogue between the various social categories and state powers," Xinhua quoted Ponta as saying.
A first round of the election will be held Nov 2. If no candidate gets 50 percent votes, a second round will be held Nov 16, with the top two candidates running against each other.
