Jaishankar's Visit and Meetings

Jaishankar, who is currently on a five-day official visit to Russia, held discussions with his Russian counterpart, Sergey Lavrov. During a joint media appearance after their talks, Jaishankar expressed confidence that Prime Minister Modi and President Putin would meet for an annual summit in the coming year. He emphasized the frequent communication between the two leaders and the significance of the summit as the highest institutional dialogue mechanism in the strategic partnership between India and Russia.
Bilateral Economic Cooperation
Jaishankar also met with Deputy Prime Minister Denis Manturov to discuss bilateral economic cooperation. The meeting resulted in the signing of crucial agreements related to the construction of future power-generating units at the Kudankulam nuclear power plant in Tamil Nadu. Despite the international condemnation of Russia's invasion of Ukraine, India has maintained a neutral stance, emphasizing the need for a diplomatic solution. India's import of Russian crude oil has increased significantly, despite concerns raised by Western countries.
The invitation extended by President Putin to Prime Minister Modi reflects the strong and enduring relationship between India and Russia. The ongoing dialogue and cooperation between the two countries, particularly in areas such as trade, energy, and defense, underscore the importance of their strategic partnership.
