PM Modi Calls on G20 Leaders to Enhance Efforts for a Sustainable Future
Prime Minister Narendra Modi called on the G20 nations to speed up their efforts for a cleaner and sustainable future. Speaking at the G20 summit's session on sustainable development and energy transition, he emphasised the need for developed countries to meet their commitments in providing technology and finance to developing nations promptly. Modi highlighted India's role in sharing its successful experiences, especially with the Global South.

The prime minister underscored India's proactive approach to climate change, noting that India is the first G20 nation to meet its Paris Agreement commitments ahead of schedule. "Our efforts are based on traditional Indian thought which is both progressive and balanced," he stated. This summary of Modi's remarks was shared on X by External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal.
Focus on Sustainable Development Goals
During the New Delhi G20 summit, Modi mentioned the adoption of the Varanasi Action Plan aimed at accelerating the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). He welcomed Brazil's presidency prioritising these goals' implementation. The prime minister advocated for a sustainable future through initiatives like the International Solar Alliance, One World-One Sun-One Grid, and the Global Bio-Fuel Alliance.
Modi also introduced Mission LiFE, or Lifestyle for the Environment, to promote sustainable living globally. "We launched the International Solar Alliance and over 100 countries have joined it," he added. This initiative aims to encourage a global shift towards environmentally friendly lifestyles.
India's Green Transition
The prime minister highlighted India's green transition as a movement embraced by its people. Over the past decade, India has constructed homes for more than 40 million families. In addition, clean water supply has been provided to 120 million homes over the last five years, showcasing India's commitment to sustainable development.
Modi's address at the G20 summit reflects India's dedication to environmental sustainability and its leadership role in promoting green initiatives worldwide. By sharing its experiences and advocating for global cooperation, India aims to inspire other nations to join in creating a sustainable future for all.
