Pakistan Violence: 15 Killed, 25 Injured In fresh Sectarian Violence In Kurram
Police in Pakistan's Kurram district have reported that recent sectarian clashes have resulted in at least 15 deaths and 25 injuries. This violence follows an attack on passenger vehicles two days prior, according to local media. Samaa TV noted that the situation worsened as rival factions exchanged gunfire using heavy weapons.
Escalating Tensions and Security Measures
In response to the escalating violence, authorities closed educational institutions across Kurram district for safety reasons. Residents were advised to remain indoors due to heightened tensions. According to 'Dawn' news, the conflict began when Bushehra tribesmen attempted to build bunkers on Ahmadzai tribal lands, prompting further violence in Central Kurram.

The Nation reported that on November 21, heavily-armed militants ambushed several passenger vehicles in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa's Kurram district. The attack resulted in over 42 fatalities and 29 injuries. Deputy Commissioner Javedullah Mehsood stated that a convoy of around 200 vehicles was traveling from Parachinar to Peshawar when it was attacked by gunmen.
Historical Context of Sectarian Violence
Kurram district has a history of sectarian violence between Shia and Sunni Muslim tribes. No group has claimed responsibility for the recent massacre. Police sources indicated that militants targeted vehicles with automatic weapons from mountain hideouts in the Ochat area of Lower Kurram.
Authorities attribute the ongoing violence to a land dispute, which has led to weeks of armed clashes and over 100 deaths between August and October. In July, similar deadly clashes over land disputes between two tribes lasted six days before subsiding.
Impact on Daily Life
The Parachinar-Peshawar highway remains closed for the seventh day, causing difficulties for farmers, travelers, and traders. Heavy police and security forces are deployed in the area as normal life is disrupted due to the tense situation.
Security forces have been stationed in the region to manage the unrest. The closure of key routes has significantly impacted daily activities, with residents facing challenges due to restricted movement and access to essential services.
