Prime Minister Narendra Modi shared a light-hearted moment with Russian President Vladimir Putin during their meeting Putin jokingly remarked that their bond was so strong that Modi might not need a translator to understand him. "We have such a relationship that I felt that you do not need any translation," stated Putin, bringing laughter to the room.
Upon his arrival in Kazan, Russia, for the Brics summit, PM Modi was warmly greeted by President Putin with a hug and handshake. The two leaders engaged in bilateral discussions ahead of the summit scheduled for October 23. The Brics group includes Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa.

Focus on Peace and Stability
Addressing the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine, PM Modi expressed India's commitment to peace. He emphasised India's readiness to support efforts towards stability. "I have been in constant touch with you on the subject of the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine. As I have said earlier, we believe that the problems should be resolved in a peaceful manner," he stated.
The Brics summit's main agenda is to discuss strategies for promoting a multipolar world order. This approach aims to challenge the current dominance of Western powers and their financial systems. Brics has grown from an emerging market group into a potential counterbalance to Western influence over the past 25 years.
Brics' Global Influence
The Brics nations collectively represent nearly 40% of the global population and about 25% of the world's GDP. Initially coined by a Goldman Sachs economist, Brics has evolved significantly since its inception. It now stands as a formidable entity in global economic discussions.
PM Modi reiterated India's dedication to humanitarian efforts amid global conflicts. He assured that India is prepared to offer all possible cooperation in future endeavours aimed at peace. "All our efforts give priority to humanity," he affirmed during his address.
The upcoming summit will explore how Brics can further its influence on global affairs. By advocating for a multipolar world order, it seeks to create a balance against US-led systems. This reflects Brics' ambition to reshape international dynamics through collective strength.
The meeting between PM Modi and President Putin underscores the importance of strong bilateral ties within Brics. Their camaraderie highlights mutual respect and shared goals among member nations as they prepare for significant discussions at the summit.
