The footage shows Jabbar shooting from behind an airbag as officers surrounded his truck.
Police Response and Investigation
The video captures a tense moment when one officer stands with his gun raised next to the open door of Jabbar's truck. A muzzle flash is visible from inside the vehicle, followed by multiple gunshots. Officers are seen diving for cover as Jabbar fires at them from close range.
According to police, two officers standing by the driver's door discharged their weapons. A third officer, positioned in front of the truck but not visible in the footage, also fired his weapon. The incident has prompted a thorough investigation into the events leading up to and during the shooting.
Details of the Incident
The attack occurred on New Year's Day when Jabbar drove his truck into a crowd of revellers on Bourbon Street, resulting in 14 fatalities. The bodycam footage provides crucial evidence in understanding the sequence of events and the police response during this tragic incident.
Authorities have refrained from releasing further details about the number of shots fired by Jabbar due to legal considerations. The investigation aims to provide clarity on the actions taken by both Jabbar and the responding officers.
