Mass Burial and Challenges in Identification
Due to the severity of the burns sustained by the victims, health authorities faced difficulties in identifying the deceased. Consequently, many of the dead were laid to rest in a mass grave on Wednesday. The extent of the tragedy was further emphasized by the presence of Liberian Vice President Jewel Howard-Taylor at the mass funeral.

Expressing her sorrow, Vice President Howard-Taylor stated, "We never expected to start the new year like this." The incident has left the nation in mourning and has raised concerns about the safety measures in place for handling fuel tankers.
Uncertain Toll and Need for Disaster Management
Health officials cautioned that the death toll could potentially rise as there was uncertainty regarding the number of individuals who had received medical attention. Dr. Minnie Sankawolo-Rocks, a doctor at a hospital treating the injured, emphasized the urgent need for the Liberian government to establish disaster management teams in each county to effectively respond to such emergencies.
Plea to Avoid Fuel Tankers
Dr. Sankawolo-Rocks passionately appealed to the public to refrain from approaching fuel tankers in the hope of collecting gasoline. She highlighted the importance of adhering to safety instructions provided by law enforcement to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
