Julius Malema Vows to Create Jobs, Revive South Africas Economy
Julius Malema, leader of South Africas EFF party, unveiled his partys election manifesto in Durban, promising job creation and economic recovery to attract voters ahead of the upcoming general election.
In a bid to attract more voters ahead of South Africa's much-anticipated general election, the leader of the country's third-largest political party, the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF), has made bold promises to create jobs for millions of unemployed citizens and revitalize the nation's economy.

Julius Malema Addresses Supporters in Durban
Julius Malema, the founder of the EFF, addressed a packed Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban, captivating a crowd of 56,000 supporters as he launched the party's election manifesto. With passion and conviction, Malema declared, "This is not a manifesto of promises, it's a manifesto of commitments." His words resonated with the audience, igniting a sense of hope and anticipation.
EFF's Radical Policies Gain Popularity
The EFF has gained significant popularity, particularly among disenchanted South Africans, especially the youth. Their radical policies, which include the expropriation of white-owned land and the nationalization of mines and banks, have struck a chord with many who feel marginalized and excluded from the country's economic prosperity.
Malema's Controversial Figure
Malema, a highly controversial figure, has garnered both support and criticism for his radical proposals. Despite the divisions he creates, his popularity continues to grow within South Africa and beyond. A former ANC youth leader who was expelled from the party, Malema has become a fierce critic of the ruling party and President Cyril Ramaphosa.
EFF's Electoral Prospects
In the 2019 elections, the EFF secured 10% of the national vote, making them the third largest opposition party. Buoyed by the decline in support for the ANC, which has governed South Africa since 1994, the EFF is optimistic about increasing its support in the upcoming elections.
Key Election Slogans
The EFF's slogan for the upcoming elections, "Jobs and land now! Stop loadshedding," encapsulates the party's focus on addressing the country's high unemployment rate, slow land redistribution, and electricity crisis.
Malema's Manifesto Commitments
Malema outlined several key commitments in the EFF's manifesto. He pledged to end the power blackouts that have plagued the country's economy and create jobs through initiatives such as social housing and road infrastructure development. Additionally, he vowed to combat corruption by jailing implicated politicians and public servants, while also introducing incentives for police to tackle the high crime rate.
Support from EFF Loyalists
EFF supporters expressed confidence in the party's chances in the upcoming elections. Nomonde Simelane, a staunch EFF supporter, believes the party is the only one genuinely committed to improving the economic situation of Black people in South Africa. Raymond Zitha, another supporter, who previously abstained from voting, plans to cast his ballot for the EFF this year.
Other Parties in the Race
In addition to the EFF, several smaller parties led by former leaders and members of major political parties will participate in the elections. Former ANC President Jacob Zuma has formed a new party, Umkhonto we Sizwe Spear Of The Nation, while Mmusi Maimane, ex-leader of the Democratic Alliance, has launched BOSA. Former Johannesburg mayor Herman Mashaba's Action SA will also contest in its first national election.
As South Africa gears up for the upcoming general election, the EFF's promises and policies have set the stage for a highly competitive and unpredictable political landscape.
